JPC Foundation Board Member Named a MacArthur Fellow
Michael Cohen, JPC Foundation board member and leading healthcare medication safety advocate, was named one of the twenty-five MacArthur Fellows by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Dr. Cohen was recognized for his efforts in reducing preventable drug and drug delivery errors in the healthcare industry. Dr. Cohen is President of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, Adjunct Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Temple University, and Assistant Editor of Hospital Pharmacy published by Facts and Comparisons in St. Louis. He has received over twenty awards for his work in safe pharmacy practice and has published numerous books, articles, and essays on the issue of safe medical practice.
Each of this year‚s twenty-five MacArthur Fellows recipients was presented with an award of $500,000 to be used as "no strings attached" support for Fellows to further current activities or pursue more creative interests. The Fellows are chosen based on their creativity, potential, and originality in all their pursuits. The MacArthur Foundation Fellows Program is a grant-making initiative dedicated to rewarding talented individuals from a variety of fields who demonstrate outstanding performance and creativity.
Upon receiving the Fellowship Dr. Cohen said, "I am so grateful for this honor and the generosity of The MacArthur Foundation. This gift will help me continue many of the programs that I feel help improve the quality of care offered to patients throughout the world." Dr Cohen intends to direct the funds towards the expansion of his life‚s work in providing safe medication practices.
