The JPC Foundation in conjunction with Cooperative Healthcare Services of South Jersey LLC presented the 2005 Patient Safety Update and Tracer Methodology conference.

  • The program focused on a number of learning objectives including:
  • Identifying, discussing, and recommending methods for recently reported serious medical errors
  • Identifying system enhancements to prevent and detect errors before they reach a patient and minimize consequences
  • Identifying recent initiatives to prevent medication errors including JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals
  • Explaining the value of focusing error reduction efforts on the system rather than individuals
  • Explaining Tracer Methodology

Dr. Michael Cohen was the program's keynote speaker. Dr. Cohen is President of the Institute for Safe Medical Practices, Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy at Temple University, and Assistant Editor of Hospital Pharmacy Facts and Comparisons in St. Louis. He has received over 20 awards for his research, practice, and contributions to the field of pharmacy including being named by Modern Healthcare on its list of 100 Most Powerful People in US Healthcare in both 2003 and 2004. Dr. Cohen has published several books and over 100 articles and essays regarding safe medical practice in the nursing and pharmacy fields.

This continuing education program was attended by 97 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The event was hosted on May 11, 2005 at the Renault Winery and Tuscany House Restaurant in Egg Harbor City, NJ.
